Welcoming a new baby into the world is one of life’s most special moments—and preserving those early days through photography is a gift you’ll treasure forever. As a newborn photographer serving Tooele and Salt Lake Counties, I often get asked how to best prepare for a newborn session. The good news? With just a few simple tips, you can feel totally at ease and ready to enjoy your session.

Here are 5 essential tips to help you get the most out of your newborn photography experience:

1. Schedule Early—Ideally During Pregnancy

The best time to photograph newborns is within the first two weeks after birth, when babies are still extra sleepy and curled up. My calendar fills quickly, so I always recommend reaching out during your second or third trimester to reserve your spot. I’ll pencil in your due date and adjust once baby arrives!

2. Keep Baby Cozy and Sleepy

To help your baby sleep soundly during the session:

  • Keep them awake for a little while before you arrive.

  • Feed them right before or as soon as you get here.

  • Dress them in something easy to remove, like a zip-up sleeper or gown.

A full belly and warm wrap go a long way in helping us get those peaceful, snuggly shots.

3. No Need to Worry About What Baby Will Wear

One of the best parts about booking with me? I provide everything your baby will need for the session—from soft wraps and cozy outfits to delicate accessories. My collection is carefully curated to match the clean, timeless style you see in my portfolio. You're welcome to just show up with your baby and let me take care of the rest!

4. Toddlers Are Unpredictable—And That’s Okay

If you're bringing older siblings along, especially toddlers, please know that we work at their pace. Sometimes they’re eager to snuggle baby, and sometimes they want nothing to do with photos—and that’s completely normal. I approach every session with patience and flexibility. Even if your toddler doesn’t “cooperate,” I promise we will still create beautiful, meaningful family images you’ll love.

5. Relax and Trust the Process

I know how overwhelming the newborn phase can feel—but once you arrive, you can breathe. I’ll guide you through the session with patience, care, and an eye for every sweet detail. Whether baby is sleepy, wide awake, or somewhere in between, I work with their natural rhythm to create timeless images you’ll treasure.
